Sabrina Carpenter is stepping into a new world, and this time, it’s straight out of Alice in Wonderland. The singer and songwriter will star in a new musical film for Universal Pictures, marking her first major studio lead role. The project is inspired by Lewis Carroll’s classic story, but will have a fresh, modern twist. Lorene Scafaria, known for Hustlers and The Meddler, will write and direct the film.
Carpenter will also produce it through her company, alongside Marc Platt Productions and Alloy Entertainment. The announcement comes shortly after the singer earned six Grammy nominations for her album Man’s Best Friend. After spending the last few years focused on music, Carpenter is now ready to take her creativity to the big screen.
