ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - It’s the most wonderful time of year to donate to children in need—providing them a Christmas to remember through the Roanoke Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program .
The program will be assisting around 1,000 children in the Roanoke Valley this season. With the government shutdown causing financial strain on many families, the need to provide is greater.
“In our current climate, we’re seeing that the need is greater. I would say we’re having more people come through our doors for help. So, we’re here to try and meet those needs anyway that we know how, and we know that it comes with the support of this community,” said Salvation Army Roanoke Corps Lt. Shawnte Hodges.
Lt. Hodges said the biggest need is for children aged 9-12, who are often the most overlooked.
