BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The Baton Rouge Fire Department says the combination of a lighter and a portable generator led to the total loss of a home in a fire on Tuesday evening, Nov. 11.
According to BRFD, the fire occurred in the 10000 block of Avenue A. When firefighters arrived on scene, they found heavy fire coming from the rear of the home. Crews were able to contain the fire to the rear and attic area of the home, but it was considered a total loss.
All occupants were safely outside when officials arrived. Six people in total were displaced.
Fire investigators determined that the fire began when one person used a lighter to search for something while another refilled a portable generator that was being used to supply power to the house.
