LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Exactly one year ago, an explosion at the Givaudan plant in Louisville's Clifton neighborhood was felt for miles, killing two people and injuring 12 others.

Recovery efforts are still ongoing.

Following the explosion, the two blocks surrounding the factory had to be evacuated after air monitor readings.

According to a report from the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board, while making caramel coloring, a batch reactor ruptured after it reached over three times its allowable pressure, even after employee efforts to lower it.

Mayor Craig Greenberg, D-Louisville, thanked first responders for their help Tuesday.
