GIRARD The City of Girard has appointed John Freeman as its new police chief as of November 7.
This appointment comes after Freeman had previously been appointed as the city's interim chief of police after the retirement of former chief John Norman.
Freeman has 16 years of experience with the police department, having previously served as Sergeant and Captain for seven of those years.
Back in September, Girard Mayor Mark Zuppo told 21 News the police department had two captains, with one having seniority over Freeman, but that captain is retiring next year, so the role was offered to Freeman and he accepted.
