Nearly half of Quebecers decided not to travel to the U.S. since the beginning of the year, as retaliation to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
A recent Léger poll commissioned by l’Alliance de l’industrie touristique du Québec shows 47 per cent of respondents decided not to travel to the United States.
Out of those who responded, 69 per cent said they travelled last summer. Of them, 68 per cent stayed in Quebec and only 9 per cent travelled to the U.S. That is a drop from the usual 20 per cent who travel to the U.S. in the summer.
Respondents said they were choosing to boycott U.S. travel for two main reasons: the political situation (40 per cent) and supporting the local economy (33 per cent).
Respondents also said they did not feel welcomed in the U.S. (28 per cent) and did not
