The fact that an artificially generated AI song has reached No. 1 on a Billboard chart in a first for the music industry is, no doubt, sacrilege to purists.
The top-selling song on Billboard’s “Country Digital Song Sales” chart is “Walk My Walk,” an AI-generated country track by an “artist” named Breaking Rust, but not to worry.
The AI song’s status takes just 3,000 sales to achieve because “Country Digital” is such a sub-specialty. The song will likely never be performed on the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville.
Also, the song cannot be copyrighted because it was not made by a human, and lawsuits may be brought by legitimate copyright owners who will allege that AI algorithms were improperly and illegally trained on their works.
