A 54-year-old Stamford woman has died after being struck by a car while crossing High Ridge Road, and police are asking for witnesses to come forward.

Nelly Ruiz was crossing the 900 block of High Ridge Road in Stamford early Sunday, Nov. 9, when a 2016 Nissan Altima hit her, officials said. The driver was a 30-year-old Stamford man, authorities said.

Police said Ruiz was not in a crosswalk when the car struck her.

Paramedics took her to Stamford Hospital with life-threatening injuries. She later died from those injuries, police said.

Investigators are asking anyone who saw the crash or has information to call the Stamford Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Squad at (203) 977-4712.

Officers Lindsey Yanicky and Cory Fisher are leading the investigation.
