We recently extolled the virtues of a certain outfit combination: cardigans and jeans . But perhaps that makes us guilty of doing the knitted item a disservice. Because, as well as denim, the best cardigans should be versatile enough to be paired with a variety of other wardrobe staples.

The first look worth mentioning appeared at Miu Miu’s autumn/winter 2025 show, in the form of a button-down cardigan that slipped off the shoulders, creating a sweetheart neckline, paired with a knitted skirt. With its sultry, collarbone-baring silhouette, it proved that the cardigan isn’t as buttoned up as you might think.
