Directors with the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) have approved spending $56,000 to conduct a feasibility study on building a joint water treatment facility to serve residents using the Sage Mesa water system and members of the Penticton Indian Band (PIB).

Funding for the study will come from the Area F Community Works (Gas Tax) reserve fund, with costs to be shared jointly with the PIB, said RDOS chief administrative officer Jim Zaffino.

The study will examine potential sites and pipe routing to serve the Sage Mesa subdivision, the entire PIB, and the West Bench area just outside Penticton city limits.

Because the funding comes from the federal gas tax, there will be no direct financial impact on RDOS residents. Eligible expenses include feasibility studies, planning,
