A Santa Rosa man who was sentenced in 2023 to 16 years in prison for driving under the influence and causing a chain-reaction crash that caused multiple injuries two years prior died late last month in state custody, according to officials.

Augie Lamar Delariva, 34, died about 7:10 pm. Oct. 29 in Pleasant Valley State Prison in Fresno County, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office is investigating his cause of death, which is pending toxicology testing results, spokesperson Tony Botti said. No further information regarding his death, including how he was found, was released.
