MOBILE, Ala. ( WALA ) - Rural hospitals struggling to stay open may get help from a half-billion-dollar federal lifeline. It’s money included in the one big beautiful bill passed over the summer.
States had to submit a plan on how they would spend their share. Alabama leaders submitted their plan early November.
Alabama Gov.. Kay Ivey released a detailed list of the state’s plan to bolster rural health.
Alabama could get up to $500 million over fives years.
It likely won’t save some of the 27 Alabama hospitals at risk of closing, but it will give some needed support.
Health leaders in our state submitted 11 initiatives to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
