The Hialeah teenager accused of brutally stabbing his mother to death in 2023 was possibly driven by a fascination with violence, the horror movie "Friday the 13th," and disturbing online videos depicting real-life gore, prosecutors said in a new court filing.

Derek Rosa, who was 13 at the time of the killing, was indicted for first-degree murder after allegedly stabbing his mother, Irina Garcia, 46 times while she slept in her bedroom on the night of October 12, 2023, just an hour before the start of Friday the 13th.

In the new court filing, prosecutors are asking a Miami-Dade judge to allow several pieces of evidence to be introduced at Rosa’s upcoming trial, which could begin in early 2026.
