Vista Del Mar Union School District has entered the second year of its five-year plan to create the Vista Institute of Environmental Studies, deepening its focus on environmental education for students in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade.
After launching the program last year with school-wide environmental awareness activities, the district is now implementing grade-specific focus areas, according to Superintendent Bree Valla.
“Now, we are deepening that commitment by making the study of the environment a core, progressive part of every student’s journey,” she said.
The curriculum introduces environmental concepts by age level:
– TK–K: Introduction to nature and local wildlife
– Grades 1–2: Conservation basics
– Grades 3–4: Environmental science topics such as ecosyste
