PORTSMOUTH — After months of heated debate and years of planning, the Portsmouth Multi-Purpose Senior Center board voted narrowly on Oct. 30 to approve a lease with the town that will allow the center to relocate to its new home at the Ade Bethune House — ending a 35-year chapter at its longtime site on Bristol Ferry Road.
The move marks a major transition for the organization, which has operated out of the former Anne Hutchinson School since the late 1980s. The newer, north wing of the aging building is slated for demolition beginning Saturday, Nov. 15, clearing the way for Church Community Housing Corp. (CCHC) to potentially transform the historic portion of the former school into market-rate condominiums. If that doesn’t work out, CCHC has vowed to give the building’s
