Washington — Toyota Motor Corp.'s $13.9 billion battery plant in North Carolina began production Tuesday.
The opening comes less than four years after a 2022 groundbreaking at the site and marks a significant milestone for the Japanese auto giant. The plant in Liberty, North Carolina, about 60 miles west of Raleigh, is the company's first and only battery plant outside of Japan.
