SHREVEPORT, La. -- A rare and breathtaking sight lit up the skies overnight — the northern lights were visible as far south as Louisiana and Texas, captivating sky watchers across the Ark-La-Tex.
The colorful glow was caused by a severe geomagnetic storm, strong enough to push the aurora borealis well beyond its usual Arctic boundaries. Many residents captured the spectacle on camera, with social media lighting up in shades of magenta, pink and red.
Some of the best local viewing spots included Caddo Lake and Cross Lake, where the open horizons made the natural light show even more brilliant. Others caught the glow from their own backyards, including KTBS Midday co-anchor Courtney Butts, who shared a stunning view from Haughton.
