QUINCY (WGEM) - Rooney Elementary School welcomed some very special guests Tuesday. Veterans related to students enjoyed two musical programs thanking them for their service.

The programs were the culmination of a month of practice and plenty of time in the classroom studying the sacrifices made by American soldiers, sailors, airmen and others.

Kindergarteners through second graders took the stage Tuesday morning before grades three through five had their time in the spotlight in the afternoon.

But the veterans were the stars of the show.

“With our three little songs that we sang today, it’s my hope that the people who were here go away feeling honored and respected, and knowing that the next generation remembers,” said Marci Keller, music teacher at Rooney Elementary School.
