DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) has awarded $950,000 in Main Street Iowa Challenge Grants to 10 communities to boost economic growth by rehabilitating downtown buildings.
The Waverly Chamber of Commerce & Main Street received $100,000 for the Downtown Dreamers Historic Upper Story Revitalization Project. Led by Tim and Rebecca Lalk, this project will convert a long-vacant second-floor space at 123 East Bremer Avenue into two modern, two-bedroom apartments, potentially generating $27,000 annually in economic impact.
“These projects are examples of the creativity and persistence we see in communities across Iowa,” said Debi Durham, director of IEDA and the Iowa Finance Authority.
