BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - CASA volunteers were honored on Tuesday at the Golden Nugget in Biloxi for their dedication to abused and foster care children.
CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, held a special dinner celebrating all 152 of its volunteers who have advocated for 359 children this year.
The event brought together CASA of South Mississippi volunteers from Harrison, Hancock, and Stone counties in one room for their annual gathering.
Stone County Youth Court Judge Sean Courtney said only 83 percent of foster children in his county are represented by a CASA volunteer, creating a need for new advocates.
“Our communities are the best of us. When we are volunteering on behalf of children, especially abused and neglected children, you are putting the best of yoursel
