As New York City continues to mark Veterans Day, some veterans say that while the federal system supporting them has improved, it can still be difficult to navigate.
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is the federal agency responsible for providing resources to the nation’s veterans. Over the years, the VA has expanded funding and outreach, but some say its programs remain complex and challenging to access.
“I love the VA, the VA is very good to me,” said Kathy Dean, a U.S. Army veteran who described her experience with the agency as largely positive.
Though she called the system bureaucratic and sometimes unorganized, Dean said the VA helped her get treatment for post-traumatic stress and panic disorder.
