ROCKFORD, Ill. — A community meeting is being held on two bridge replacements in Rockford.
The City of Rockford announced on Facebook that they will host a public meeting to introduce a project to replace the 1st and 2nd Street bridges over the Union Pacific Railroad. It was first announced that the bridges would be replaced in 2021, with an original expected completion by 2023 .
Community members are invited to look at exhibits, aerial maps, and reports. Members are also encouraged to give feedback with the project team.
There will not be a formal presentation.
The project is being completed according to an Illinois Commerce Commission Order to remake the bridge connections, which have been closed to traffic since at least 2017 for safety concerns.
