Judge bans woman from having animals after ‘horrid’ abuse case involving 19 dead pets

JACKSON, MI – When Remi, a healthy mixed-breed dog, was adopted July 10, 2024, from the Jackson County Animal Shelter, the staff believed he was going to a loving home.

The shelter didn’t know Remi would be immediately handed off to a self-proclaimed animal rescuer, Makayla Mylin Stefaniuk, who had asked a friend to get him, shelter Director Lydia Sattler said.
