LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - A fire at a Lawrence grocery store led to an arrest over the weekend.

The Lawrence Douglas County Fire and Medical responded to a trash can fire in the women’s bathroom of the Checkers located at 2300 Louisiana Street just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

According to LDCFM, the fire was initially extinguished by employees.

Fifty-seven-year-old Polly Ann Wiggins Schwarting was arrested at 9:35 a.m. Sunday and charged with aggravated arson.

LDCFM said an origin and cause investigation of the fire led to Schwarting’s arrest. No damage estimates were available for the store as of Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities told KCTV.
