A Virginia man who police say broke into a Woodbridge KinderCare was caught after leaving behind the one thing you don’t want to lose at a crime scene — your passport.
According to the Prince William County Police Department, the investigation began around 1:51 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, when officers were called to KinderCare on Harbor Drive after staff reported a burglary.
Employees first noticed items out of place when they opened the daycare on Sunday, Nov. 9. The next day, they made a more telling discovery — a passport left behind by the intruder.
Officers tracked down the passport’s owner, identified as 40-year-old Abu Bakarr Sesay, and determined he had entered the building twice that weekend through an unsecured door, police said.
Then came the twist.
On Tuesday, Nov. 11, Sesay allegedly returned to the KinderCare, where staff immediately called police. Officers arrived and detained him without incident.
Nothing major was reported stolen — except for some food Sesay ate during his late-night visits, police said.
Sesay, of Woodbridge, was charged with two counts of burglary and one count of petit larceny. He’s being held without bond pending a court date.
