CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Retired Lt. Dave Burnaugh, a longtime Cherokee County firefighter, died following a battle with cancer, according to Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services.

The department announced Burnaugh's death in a Facebook post on Tuesday.

Burnaugh served the department for many years before his retirement, according to the social post. During his career, he was known among colleagues for his professionalism and dedication to the community.

"He was a devoted husband, father, friend, and firefighter whose impact will be felt for generations to come," the department wrote.

The fire department described Burnaugh as a leader who demonstrated humility and compassion throughout his career.
