The New York Yankees acquired Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers last offseason. He did not have a great year and is now a free agent.
Williams was arguably the best closer in baseball with the Brewers. He was a two-time All-Star and two-time Trevor Hoffman National League Reliever of the Year. However, with the Yankees, he lost the closer job and had the worst season of his career.
It would be hard to script a worse contract year for Williams. However, his track record may still be able to land him a decent deal in free agency, but likely not one that many projected him to earn a year ago. Many teams will be looking for bullpen help, and Williams is an interesting target. If he can get back to his Brewers form, he is as good as any reliever in the sport. Just Baseball's Ryan Fin
