Steinbach’s Agape House continues to see rising demand for its services as family and domestic violence cases increase in complexity. Executive Director Tracy Whitby says her team has to be creative at times in finding safe spaces for survivors.
“In the last five years, the need has grown exponentially, and we are almost always at or over capacity,” said Whitby. “The biggest challenge we're having right now is lack of space and the increase in need. Times are challenging for so many people, and that increases tensions in the home, which potentially can increase abuse.”
Whitby explained that participants’ situations often include layers of challenges such as addictions, mental health struggles, and immigration issues, which make navigating systems and supporting survivors more complex.
