Teesside Live readers have sympathised with a visitor to Teesside Park who got a £60 parking penalty . Derek Berryman said he is unlikely to return to the Stockton retail park after being fined for parking on the white line at the edge of a hatched zone.

The retired firefighter said he parked that way to allow his disabled passenger to exit safely. He maintains the parking posed no danger and challenged the ticket under the Equality Act.

Enforcement company Minster Baywatch upheld the penalty, saying Mr Berryman’s parking violated the car park’s terms and conditions. They added that his position “may have impeded important space required by the adjacent disabled space user.”
