Concerned locals reported seeing police cordon off the Cowgate during an emergency response.

Officers and firefighters descended on the Old Town location at 2.05pm on Wednesday November 12.

Police Scotland personnel were spotted standing guard at the junction of Guthrie Street as well as at Blair Street for around an hour.

Officers said they received a report of a concern for a person and after attending the incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested.

The area was reopened at around 3.30pm.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.05pm on Wednesday, 12 November, we received a report of concern for a person on Cowgate in Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended.

“A 40-year-old man has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”
