Tripoli, Nov 12: At least 42 migrants are feared dead after a rubber boat capsized off the Libyan coast, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Wednesday.
According to officials, the vessel was carrying 49 people when it sank near the Al Buri oilfield. Libyan authorities rescued seven survivors who had been drifting in the open sea for nearly six days before being found.
The survivors reported that the boat began taking in water shortly after departure, leading to the tragic sinking. Rescue operations and efforts to recover the missing are ongoing.
The incident highlights the continuing dangers faced by migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean in search of safety and better opportunities in Europe.
