INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WAVE) - As Executive Director of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, Jonathan Whitham says storm safety rooms are a sure bet.

“I am one hundred percent positive that these safe rooms save lives, especially homes that don’t have basements or a solid interior room,” Whitham said.

He added that until Nov. 30, Hoosiers can register to win a five thousand dollar grant for the Indiana Residential Safe Room Program.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security will randomly select 33 homeowners to receive funds through the program supported by the federal emergency management agency.
