Audrey Henckel is only 17, but the Rochester High senior knows nearly 500 military veterans and she expects to meet a few more in the future.
To earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, Henckel wanted to honor the high school’s alumni who served in the military. On Tuesday, she helped dedicate a “Wall of Honor” for veterans from every branch of service.
The dedication was part of the high school’s Veterans Day observance, which included a breakfast for veterans.
Former U.S. Marine Jerry Pruitt attended the ceremony with his daughter, Susan Murasky, to see the names of his two sons, U.S. Navy veteran Gerald Pruitt, who is still living, and David Pruitt, a U.S. Army combat engineer who died on duty during a 1987 training exercise.
