There is a good chance northern lights will occur this evening across the northern U.S. In Michigan, we will want to be in a corridor that will have clear skies.

The Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) continues to predict a Kp Index=7 this evening. That level of Kp Index is high enough to allow northern lights to be visible anywhere in Michigan, including the southern border. The image below shows the expected southern extent of northern lights tonight, if they develop. Click on the image and look at the solid red line.

Of course we need clear skies or mostly clear skies to see northern lights. Clear skies can be tough in Michigan at this time of year. Tonight will be no exception.
