GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Police are giving an update on an officer-involved shooting from Tuesday.
The situation began around 2 p.m. on Tuesday. It happened in the area of Adams Street SE and Blaine Avenue SE, near Kalamazoo Avenue.
Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom said an officer in training and his field trainer were on patrol when they noticed a person of interest in the theft of a firearm.
Officers say they called out to him, and the suspect fired four rounds at officers, hitting their patrol car.
The officers returned fire, Winstorm says. No one was hit, and the man ran off.
Winstrom says they quickly established a large perimeter, using drones to surveil the area. They found the firearm through a heat signature.
