Mater Dei senior volleyball player Layli Ostovar had committed to USC long ago.
Making that decision removed the pressure that top high school athletes often feel when they are choosing from a variety of scholarship offers.
Then comes the signing of the financial aid agreement, which formerly was known as the “letter of intent,” which makes it official.
When Ostovar announced her USC decision well before her senior season began, she had no second thoughts.
On Wednesday, Ostovar signed the agreement in the Mater Dei gym during the school’s ceremony that honored 40 of the school’s athletes who are signing with college programs.
Mater Dei athletic department personnel read brief summations of each student-athlete and they were quickly photographed with their coaches in front of a screen
