Michael Duarte, a popular TikTok content creator known as FoodwithBearHands, has died following a police incident just three days after celebrating his wedding anniversary. The 36-year-old chef, who had amassed over 800,000 followers for his cooking videos focused on BBQ and grilling, was shot by police in Texas on Saturday. Duarte was reported to have been acting erratically while holding a knife when officers responded to the scene. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Duarte approached the officers in a threatening manner. Despite multiple commands to get on the ground, he allegedly charged at a deputy while shouting, "I’m going to kill you." He was later pronounced dead in hospital. He leaves behind his wife, Jessica Duarte, and their six-year-old daughter, Oakley. A GoFundMe campaign set up by Nena Petricca from El Cajon, California, has raised over £65,000 to support his family during this difficult time. The fundraising page expressed deep sorrow, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Michael Duarte passed away in a horrible incident on Saturday, November 8th during his travel in Texas." The page continued, "Michael's death occurred just 3 short days after he and his wife celebrated their 9-year wedding anniversary. The world may know him as 'FoodwithBearHands', but to us, he was a loving husband, father, brother, and a great friend to many. We ask that you lift Michael's family up in prayer during this extremely difficult time." As of now, funeral arrangements for Duarte remain undecided.
