A student who arrived in Australia two years ago without knowing how to speak English has been recognised for her courage and determination.
North Lake Senior Campus student Nazi Nazari was among six students to receive a $500 sponsorship from the Rotary Club of Booragoon.
Nurul “Lucy” Syafikan from Malaysia was also among the recipients.
The Rotary Endeavour Awards, presented annually by Rotary Booragoon, celebrate students who show determination, resilience and a strong commitment to their studies regardless of personal circumstances.
Nazi, who grew up in Afghanistan before spending five years in Iran with limited access to education, reunited with her father and arrived in Australia only two years ago.
