CHARLES CITY, Iowa – A plea deal for child sex abuse is sending a Floyd County man to prison.

Randy Lee McFarland, 39 of Charles City, was arrested in November 2024 for second-degree sexual abuse. Court documents state McFarland sexually abused a child under the age of 10 between January and August 2024.

He pleaded not guilty and was scheduled to stand trial, but then entered an Alford plea to two counts of lascivious acts with a child.

McFarland has now been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and ordered to pay a civil penalty of $520.

An Alford plea means McFarland does not admit guilt but concedes he could be convicted at trial and will accept criminal sentencing.
