Motorists are experiencing significant disruption on the M6 this evening due to an ongoing police incident. Traffic has been halted on the northbound carriageway between junction 20 for the M56 and junction 21 for the A57 Manchester Road. Emergency services, including police and Highways Officers, are currently on the scene.

According to live traffic service Inrix, the chaos is a result of a collision, prompting police to block off multiple lanes. An update from Inrix stated, "All traffic being temporarily held and severe delays due to accident on M6 Thelwall Viaduct Northbound between J20 M56 J9 (Lymm Interchange) and J21 A57 Manchester Road (Woolston)."

As of 19:09, National Highways confirmed that two of the four lanes on the M6 remain closed due to the incident. They reported, "Lanes 3 & 4 (of 4) are closed on the #M6 in #Cheshire northbound between J20 (#M56) & J21 (#Warrington) due to a collision. Long delays of at least 60 minutes on approach & 6 miles of congestion. Please allow extra time for your journey. Thank you for your patience."

By 19:20, an update indicated that all vehicles had been moved out of the live lane, and all lanes were reopened. However, National Highways warned that motorists should still expect delays. They stated, "There are 60 min delays above normal travel time following this incident so please allow time for these delays to clear."

The situation remains fluid, and drivers are advised to stay updated on traffic conditions as they navigate the area. Emergency services continue to manage the aftermath of the collision, and the public is urged to exercise caution while travelling in the vicinity.
