Five people, including two youths, have been arrested in relation to the August home invasion shooting that killed a father who was protecting his family in Vaughan, York police said in an update Wednesday afternoon.
Three suspects — at least one wielding a firearm — broke into Abdul Aleem Farooqi’s home on Andreeta Drive in Kleinberg around 1 a.m. on Aug. 31. The assailants held at least one of Farooqi’s daughters at gunpoint, according to a friend of the family, before fatally shooting the 46-year-old father in front of his family.
The suspects fled the area wearing dark clothing and face coverings, police said at the time. Investigators said they believed the home had been targeted “for monetary gain.”
