MARYVILLE, Tenn. — There's a new way to help the homeless population in Blount County this holiday season.
The Salvation Army, known for its Angel Tree initiative that gathers Christmas gifts for children, is taking that idea and using it to help the unhoused, by launching its first Giving Tree Project.
The group's Blount County faction said its placing festive trees at the Blount County Public Library and Southern Grace Coffee Company in Maryville. On those trees there will tags, hanging like ornaments, that people can pick. On the tags will be items that can then be purchased for people in need.
People are asked to then purchase the gifts, and return them to the Salvation Army, 1414 Jefferson Avenue, Maryville, to help people in need. The gifts should be unwrapped when they're droppe
