JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — They live on the First Coast and have shared decades of love, life, and a passion for classic cars. Now, two local couples—both "Buddy Check" success stories—are sharing their personal breast cancer journeys to highlight the importance of self-exams and early detection.

John and Bernadette Hashtak, along with Steve and Pam Kerlin, have a combined 109 years of marriage between them. Their story is a blend of 1950s nostalgia and a serious reminder about health.

John took Bernadette to the senior prom in a 1957 Chevy, a memory that has carried through the decades. Today, he and Steve collect the vintage cars. John's affection for the vehicles is clear; he joked with a reporter, "If you have gloves, you can touch it ... No, just kidding!"
