MONROE, Ga. — The right lane of I-75 Northbound before Dames Ferry Road is blocked because of a grass fire on Wednesday afternoon.

The grass fire was called in by a driver on the interstate in Monroe County around 1 p.m., according to the Monroe County Fire Department.

Captain Christina Bramlett with the fire department said that Georgia Forestry got to the scene around 2:15 p.m. Bramlett said that they normally ask forestry to help respond if they are unable to control the fire with their own units.

Bramlett also said that the City of Forsyth Fire Department is helping on scene.

They are trying to control the fire quickly so that it does not keep spreading, as the wooded areas nearby are dry and could easily cause the fire to spread, Bramlett said.
