[INDEPENDENCE, Iowa] — An apartment fire in Independence early Wednesday left three people injured. The Independence Fire Department responded to the blaze on the 600 block of 2nd Avenue Northeast after receiving reports of individuals trapped inside.
Independence Police officers managed to rescue one person from a window before the fire crews arrived. When firefighters reached the scene, they confronted heavy flames coming from the apartment windows.
Fire crews conducted an aggressive attack on the fire and performed a primary search of the building. During the search, they found a third victim inside, who was promptly removed from the building.
