SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) — The city of Springfield announced plans Wednesday morning to bring a resolution before the city council to start eminent domain proceedings against the property where Hotel of Terror operates.
The city offered the property owner six times the appraisal value of $380,000, for a total of $2 million, according to the city. The city council decided to let the courts determine the property’s price. The city attorney received a counter proposal Monday afternoon, but officials did not disclose the amount.
The Hotel of Terror sits next to the Main Avenue Bridge. Assistant Public Works Director Brett Foster said MoDOT has rated the bridge a 2 and considers it structurally deficient. If the bridge deteriorates further, the city would have to close it until it is replaced.
