OLYMPIA, Wash. — A bystander’s cellphone video showing federal immigration agents detaining a man in Olympia last week is prompting concern among city officials and immigrant advocates, who question whether federal authorities may be leveraging local police data despite the city’s sanctuary policies.

The brief video, captured by Jesse Ashton, shows several men wearing bullet-resistant vests surrounding a car near a downtown Olympia intersection. The clip, which quickly spread on social media, captures passers-by honking and shouting, “We don’t want you in our community.”

“I had an idea it was ICE,” Ashton said. “When they boxed him in, I immediately knew.”

Olympia police confirmed that the arrest was a federal immigration operation, but said their department was not notified or involved
