BEAUMONT, Texas — A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a man for intoxication manslaughter in the death of 19-year-old Jasmine Batiste , a mother and great-niece of former Beaumont mayor Robin Mouton, according to Jefferson County District Attorney Cory Kneeland.
Lajanara Stevenson was arrested after crashing head-on into Batiste's vehicle on Washington Boulevard on Sept. 14, where police say he was driving intoxicated.
The court document indicated that Stevenson was traveling the wrong way or in the opposing traffic lanes. 12News received the document from Jefferson County Magistrate Judge Marc DeRouen.
Batiste was pronounced dead at the scene by Beaumont EMS at 1:14 a.m., according to the document.
Stevenson was charged with intoxication manslaughter, a second degree felony,
