Martin Lewis said that more than 1.1 million overpayments in the 2024/25 tax year were made to student loans.

This adds up to at least 5 million total past overpayments, the MoneySavingExpert.com founder stated in his latest newsletter.

Sharing one such story, Caroline emailed in August: "I was amazed to get a £949 refund from the Student Loans Company, as I assumed I had paid the correct amount over the years.
