A 42-year-old Newark man was convicted of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl on Monday, Nov. 10, authorities said.

Javier Freire-Ramos sexually assaulted the girl, a family member, multiple times between May 2021 and February 2022, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II said.

The girl was 11 years old when the abuse began, Stephens said. Freire-Ramos was convicted of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by contact and endangering the welfare of a child, Stephens said.

Freire-Ramos faces a potential prison term of 25 years to life in New Jersey State Prison when he is sentenced in February, Stephens said.
